Shakespeare in the Park - 2013 King Lear and Midsummer Night's Dream
Each summer, Burien Arts presents two FREE Shakespeare performances outdoors in Dottie Harper Park, located next to the Burien Community Center. This program presents timeless dramatic themes developed by Shakespeare so long ago, and through Greenstage’s expertise makes them relevant to today’s audiences. Burien Arts is able to continue bringing these live dramatic performances to the residents of the Burien/Highline area because of the generosity of our many members, friends and supporters.
The performances are produced by the very experienced and regionally known theater, GREENSTAGE. People bring blankets and folding chairs for seating, and many bring boxed meals and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy during the performances. The tradition of Shakespeare in the Park continues to attract audiences of all ages, who enjoy the casual setting and audience involvement that characterizes Greenstage productions. Summer 2013 Shakespeare in the Park Series presents King Lear on Saturday, July 27; and A Midsummer Night's Dream on Saturday, August 3rd. Shows begin at 7 pm.
King Lear Directed by Erin Day
July 27th 7 pm Dottie Harper Park
Aged KING LEAR is ready to give up the throne and divvy up the kingdom among his three daughters. But Lear’s idea to hold a flattery-fest to determine which of the offspring gets the biggest and best chunk of land goes horribly awry. In addition to the scheming heiresses there are others at court intent on power-grabbing and double-crossing. Mix in bit of insanity, and you’ve got trouble. Find out who picks up the pieces in Shakespeare’s tragic tale of palace intrigue.Directed by GreenStage Artistic Director Erin Day, and starring Vince Brady (Claudius from 2008's Hamlet) as Lear

A Midsummer Night"s DreamDirected by Ken Michels
July 12- August 17, 2013
There’s something for everyone cavorting in the enchanted forest of Athens in Shakespeare’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. Faries, elves, sprites, star-crossed lovers, dukes and duchesses, and a motley band of actors get into all sorts of mischief with their magic love potions, madcap schemes, and amorous intentions. Plus, there’s a guy who gets turned into a donkey! We adore a good love story, don’t you?
