Alki Arts Gallery - Front

Alki Arts Gallery

Just a 20-minute drive from Burien is Alki Arts, a little gem of a gallery in West Seattle featuring well-curated relatively affordable works by established Northwest artists. A visit here refreshes the eyes and spirit.

Each month brings a new themed exhibit. The current exhibit, titled Kaleidoscope, features artists Leon Lowman, Brooke Borcherding, Christopher Mathie, Steffanie Lorig, & Christine Sharp among others.

Here are three paintings that caught my eye:

Christopher Mathie - Always Look For The Light

Christopher Mathie’s painting Always Look for the Light catches the shifting light on a beach on Whidbey Island.

Brooke Borcherding - Urban Vibrations

Brook Borcherding’s painting Urban Vibrations embodies the feeling of downtown Seattle. You need to view Brooke’s paintings from three-four yards back so that your eyes will mix the shapes and colors.

Chuck Gumpart - Pacific Transcendence

Chuck Gumpart’s Pacific Transference is like a scene viewed from underwater, dreamy and magical.

My snapshots do not do these paintings justice.

Curator/owner Diane Venti visits exhibits and studios throughout the Pacific Northwest to scout her artists. She currently represents thirty-five artists whom she displays in rotation in themed monthly shows. See the current list at  https://www.alkiarts.com/artists  Burien Arts has displayed Lezlie Jane and Garreth Schuh

Several of the group have displayed with Alki Arts for over ten years while others are relative newcomers.

The monthly opening reception is on the first Saturday or Sunday of each month. In addition, Diane hosts a monthly concert and art classes for adults in the charming space. The gallery participates in the West Seattle Art Walk, which takes place on the second Thursday of each month. See the events calendar for details.

Gallery hours are Wednesday-Sunday 12 – 6:00. You are likely to chat with Diane herself, who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
