Seattle Art Fair Coming in July

By: Claire Yurdin

The Seattle Art Fair is returning July 17-20, 2025, in the Lumen Field Event Center, Seattle, for its ninth year to dazzle us once again.

The Fair will feature 85 galleries from ten US states as well as China, Ukraine, South Africa, Greece, Italy, Argentina, South Korea, UK, Japan, France, Canada, and India. Only once a year does such a gathering of art from around the world assemble here.

That so many galleries attend is a testament to our collectors and the artistic level of the Seattle metro area, not to mention its wealth. (Thank you, high tech.)
There are also interesting panel discussions and speakers on art topics. See https://seattleartfair.com/theater/ for this year’s programming.

Prepare to be impressed, inspired, and to get new ideas (just when you thought there weren’t any more.) Chat with the friendly art dealers. Genuine compliments on their offerings are always appreciated and you can have some good conversations.

Buy tickets online or at the door, but online will save you a wait in line. See https://seattleartfair.com/visit/#tickets

Food and drink are available on site as well as frequent benches when you need to rest a bit. Wear sneakers as the Event Center is large with hard floors.

Parking is in the Lumen field parking lots. For a bus, from Burien, take the Rapid Ride H Line, get off at Alaskan Way and South Jackson, and walk a short distance. For light rail, take Line 1 from the Tukwila station and get off at the Stadium stop.

See https:///www.seattleartfair.com for further details.

Founded by late Microsoft co-founder and art collector Paul Allen, the Fair is now run by AMP, an events firm that produces cultural experiences worldwide. Since 2011, AMP has produced high quality art fairs, currently Art on Paper (NYC), San Francisco Art Fair, Seattle Art Fair, and the newly launched Atlanta Art Fair. See http://www.amp.com.

To give some perspective and context, the top ten art fairs in the world are considered to be:

–Art Basel: Founded in 1970 in Basel, Switzerland, Art Basel is usually named the top fair in the world, with events in Basel, Hong Kong, Miami Beach, and Paris. Basel offers works by the most well-known names in modern and contemporary art, as well as rising stars.

–Frieze: Founded in London in 2003, Frieze holds events in New York and Seoul as well. Frieze is among the leading events where veteran buyers and collectors find the newest and best works by mid-career and established modern and contemporary artists.

–TEFAF: The European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF) has presented fairs in the Dutch city of Maastricht and in New York since 1988, featuring museum-quality works of art, antiques, and design. The Maastricht fair spans 7000 years of art while the NYC event focuses more on contemporary art and design.

–Zona Maco: Zona Maco has been Latin America’s largest art fair for 20 years. You will find a strong selection of Latin American dealers, including mid-level and emerging artists, together with exhibitors from around the world.

–IFPDA Print Fair: The International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) print fair in New York since 2002 is the world’s largest art fair for prints and editions, offering rare pieces by historic artists like Durer together with contemporary works.

–NADA: The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) holds events in New York, Paris, Miami, and now in Warsaw, Poland. NADA showcases emerging and mid-level galleries that display contemporary works by young artists that are often more avant-garde and experimental than those seen at other fairs and at lower prices.

–Art Dubai: For over 20 years this has been the Middle East’s leading international art fair, presenting a diverse mix of modern and contemporary art. The fair also includes a unique digital section that explores new media and technology, such as works created using artificial intelligence. The fair has helped establish Dubai as a cultural center and to connect the Middle East with the international art world.

–West Bund Art & Design: Shanghai, China. This event has showcased modern and contemporary art and design in China since 2014.

–Art Cologne: This Cologne, Germany, art fair has been running for 60 years, welcoming many exhibiters from around the world and seeing sales of significant works of modern and contemporary art.

Visiting any of these could be the focus of a memorable trip even if you are not a collector.
